Today, 30/05/2008 we visited the royal elephant.

And ROYAL it truly is.

The building exterior is by no means imposing, but.

Open the door and enter one of the smartest restaurants north of London.

On entry is a comfortable lounge, to order drinks an excellent selection, of beers and wines all impeccably kept. and served.

To enter the sumptuous 180 seat restaurant is a true eye opener,

This place says Class.

The well trained staff are excellent, the food is superb, as is the service.

After eating I took the time too shake hands with the owner Patrick.

Who gave me a grand tour, of the enormous kitchens, cellars, preparation, rooms, etc, All 100% spotless, and worthy of the finest

French and London restaurants.

To sum up the elephant, To say we where impressed would,

Be a vast understatement.

This is a grand old pub, serving the very best English food.

No nouvelle cuisine here, just quality tasty home made food,

our meal for today, 29/05/2008.

was a Neapolitan pasta for my wife and a small rack of lamb for me.

Food doesn't get better than this just a small choice from a very comprehensive menu. all carefully prepared by the landlady.

the pub itself sits in the midst of pristine walking country.

and has a rustic charm all of its own.

The menu itself is either set menu or specials board.

far to numerous dishes for me to list.

ranging from own produced lamb to huge seafood thermador's

A very fine selection of beers and single malt whiskies on offer.

you would need to stay a week to sample them all.

The landlady, (chef,) is just about the most industrious person,I have ever met, not only dishing up perfectly consistent meals, but finds time to bake home made cakes, as well. for you to purchase.

It has to be said this is the tastiest of  lamb and is home reared and matured humanely on the pleasant moors and pastures adjacent to the inn there is none better in this land.

The food here is good traditional English fare, all freshly prepared,

Weary and thin they stagger in; fat and stout they waddle out. Its a belly buster!

Top class home cooked fresh veg, steaks as you like 'em. Extensive menu to suit all. Last time I called, I didn't eat for 3 days.

the pendle area is steeped in history and legend, and a fine place for hiking, and photography, the view from the top of pendle hill, is breathtaking.

This has to be one of my top favourites,

The food and service is absolute tops, and in my humble opinion,

it's the best in the dales.

A superb selection of beer and wines is on offer,

situated as it is by the river wharf the footpath by the river,

provides easy walking in both directions.

When you have eaten here, you will return.

A must visit is the delvers inn at Wainstalls.

please note the chefs day off is Monday.

(where the hell is Wainstalls? you may ask.)

Well Wainstalls is a quiet little hamlet high up in the hills above Halifax

Its a bit like Royston Vasey, is Wainstalls but there the comparison end's

For Wainstalls hides a very fine eatery The Delvers.

All the food is freshly cooked to perfection, forget Eagon Ronay,

This is real food as we in yorkshire like it.

Treat yourselves, to some excellent food from the varied set menu,

or daily specials board.

Whilst quaffing a few jugs of real yorkshire ale.

And maybe relaxing in the comfortable conservatory

My favourite barnsley chops cut thick and cooked to perfection

served on a large hot plate, with fresh cooked roasties and veg

 

Both the set menu and specials board,

contain an excellent variety meals to suit all tastes.
